Our Words Matter
Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
"Corrupt" means rotten, putrefied, worthless, unfit for use, and worn out. Change what you are saying if it's not building you and others up. If our words are rotten, they can cause us and those we love to be worn out. You are the first one who hears what you say, so you are a hearer in this verse. Are we imparting grace or worthless words? The enemy can work through you if you let him have control of your words. Allow God’s word to build you up, along with those around you, by speaking it -- not just thinking it!
Be encouraged, my friend, and know you can minister grace to yourself and others by what you are communicating. Maybe you have a work environment in which corrupt words and feelings are being expressed to you. Change the atmosphere, imparting grace through your words to the point of building them up. Speak it! Speak it now, says the Lord!
Whatever we are passing out with our mouths will be what we receive because, again, we are the hearer. Take time to focus on words that give goodwill and let no corrupt communication come out for the good of others and yourself. It will solve many problems we may be creating ourselves.
Worthless words of negativity are designed to tear you down. So how do you deal with corrupt talk that someone has spoken about you? Minster grace and be built up by not repeating it to someone else.
Confessions are the best way I know to begin to impart grace in our lives. But our confessions must be Word-based. Light comes to those who have the word of God coming out of their mouths. Lord, forgive us when we have allowed idle talk to hurt others, you and ourselves.
Word from the Lord: Let my word rest in your hearts. Many of you are allowing other things to rest there and it is causing you to say things contrary to my word. My word is light and it will take care of a multitude of problems in your bodies, families, jobs and finances. Speak peace to the hearers and become my children who fashion and train their tongues to bring grace and peace. Be whole, as I am whole, says the Lord. Your hearts may be heavy in many ways, but if you will change what you're saying, then you will change what you have in life.
